Myles Martin Weekly Alumni Report for Dec 5
Rest in Peace Fletchers Field – For the past 60 years, Fletcher’s Field—fondly known as “The Square”—has been the beating heart of rugby in Ontario. It wasn’t just a field; it was a home, a stage, and a sanctuary. From regular season games to intense playoff battles, provincial clashes, and unforgettable international showdowns, Fletcher’s became a place where players and fans alike made the pilgrimage to Markham, season after season. But Fletcher’s was more than just a hub for fierce competition; it was a place where friendships were forged, where bonds formed over shared love for the game. It was the soul of rugby in this province—a place where victories were celebrated, losses were consoled, and countless memories were made. […]

Myles Martin Weekly Alumni Report for Oct 3
Congratulations to all our Gold and Blue athletes both men and women, on a great season.! – The ones were down going into the final minute of the game but a great play by young Jamie Cain turned the game in our favour and saw us hold up the cup for the last time in Fletchers Field. Here’s the game recap and if you want to watch the game, the link is below:
Wow! Everyone was fiending for a final to send off Fletcher’s Field in style and boy did this game deliver. If someone had said before this game started that we would: have our starting fly half dislocate his shoulder and removed from the game within the first 2 […]
Myles Martin Weekly Alumni Report for Sept 26th
A note from the rugby section re the finals being played Sept 28, 2024. As you may have heard, a series of wacky events has led to the last Gee Gage Cup to be played at Fletchers to be up for grabs between Beach 2’s and Beach 3’s. I think this is a great throwback to the early years of the Gee Gage Cup, where more than one or two of the finals were also Beach 2’s V Beach 3’s games. The game kicks off at 11:30AM, and a bus will be leaving the clubhouse at 9:30AM. Physio’s, refs, and champagne for after the game are already sorted, and I hear rumors that the smoke machine, and disco ball from […]
Myles Martin Weekly Alumni Report for Sept 18th
What a great evening as we said goodbye to a great blue and gold stallworth Claude “the Dude” Germaine.
We had over 110 in the main hall last night laughing at infamous moments and inside jokes and dirty poems. Big shout out to the roasters, Malency, Brock and Scott Dunham and to Kyle Nichols for MCing the event.
I spoke with Claude and he was super emotional and very drunk but infinitely thankful for the special evening he was able to spend with his family and friends on this very special night.
No game report from last weekend but the Beach 1s were able to squeak out a victory over the Oshawa Vikings 10-6 so they will be playing the last finals on […]

Myles Martin Weekly Alumni Report for Sept 8th
Some great rugby this weekend and I hope you had a chance to make to the pitch to watch the Beach take on Burlington
Burlington kicked off with the wind behind them. The battle by the beach was primarily played in the forwards with a lot of pick and goes from the base and driving mauls from lineouts. Knocking on the doorstep of Burlington’s goal line we moved the ball out wide and dotted down in the corner. Beach up 7-0. Burlington then marched right back down the field moving the ball efficiently through their center with runners attacking the gain line until they found a soft spot in the Beaches defense that was quickly exploited. […]

Myles Martin Weekly Alumni Report for July 22nd
TRU II: Default Win VS Mississauga
TRU I: 33-15 Win VS Mississauga – I didn’t go to this game but it was apparently a route in the first half, and then Mississauga clawed their way back in a little.
ORU II: 14-22 Loss VS Scottish II’s – With over 65 players unavailable this weekend our ORU two’s came out of the gate slow. The boys on the field stepped up as much as they could but with so many players playing out of position in order to other absences it took a little while for the squad to find it’s feet. By half time we were down 0-14. The two’s rallied in typical fashion and won the second half, but ran […]
Myles Martin Weekly Alumni Report for July 15th
Beach TRU II VS North Halton – Forfeit by North Halton
Beach TRU I VS Crusaders – Forfeit by Crusaders
Beach ORU II VS Peterborough II 55-5 – Not much to report here. As is typical lately for the ORU 2’s this game was never really in doubt and was a total domination. Forwards crushed the opposition pack and set up a bunch of opportunities for our backs to pull out some fancy moves and dot down some big tries. On to the next one.
Beach ORU I VS Peterborough I 40-21 – This game started out with a bang and beach pumped in quick successive try’s in the first half to put us up 28-0 at half time. Peterborough struck first in […]

Game Recaps from the Weekend
Balmy Beach Dominates Ajax Wanderers with 45-29 Victory – In an electrifying display of rugby prowess, the Balmy Beach 1s triumphed over the Ajax Wanderers with a decisive 45-29 win on the road. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both teams showcasing their skills, but it was Balmy Beach who emerged victorious, thanks to a formidable performance by their forwards.
From the first whistle, it was clear that Balmy Beach meant business. The forwards set the tone early, establishing dominance in the scrums and rucks. The power and cohesion of the pack were evident, as they relentlessly drove the Ajax forwards backward, winning crucial scrums and providing a steady platform for the backs […]

Game Recaps from the Weekend
TRU II: Beach vs Bucc’s II 24-12
A close game to open up the TRU II campaign after last week’s default by Mississauga. Bucc’s and Beach both came out swinging in this hard hitting affair. A quick try by Beach put us up 7-0. Beach soon scored again, but the Bucc’s came back to put the score at 12-7 at half time. The second half saw the return to rugby of former First Fifteen 8-man Damien Leonard after a multi year hiatus. Adding a little umph! To the TRU II pack gave us the edge we needed to pump in two more tries. Final Score 24-12.

2024 U19 Ireland Tour
It came together quickly; towards the end of a successful 2023 U18 season, the coaching staff asked the question “Can we do a tour in the spring?” By September we had 25 players committed and we were on our way to Ireland in March 2024.
Knowing our opposition would be tough, we put together a winter schedule for the players to get them fitter than ever. A 12 week strength and conditioning program was run by Ryan MacSween out of Primal Gym; each Sunday morning 20 players would run, sweat and push harder than they ever have. By February Head Coach Andrew Steele had the squad shaking out the rust and running their attack system at the Metro Sports Dome every […]

McCormick Cup 2022
The great news of the weekend is that both Beach Sr Men’s Teams won the McCormick Cup. The 2XV beat Lindsay to win the Gee Gage Cup and the 1XV won a nail-biter to beat the Scottish. That makes 16 McCormick Cups for the Blue and Gold. If you didn’t make a chance to see the game here is the link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1jNaZJdmXY
Beach II’s V Lindsey – Just as a little history on this match; Beach TRU I’s and Lindsay played in the same league this summer. In our one match up, Beach won a close fought game. Beach finished 2nd after the TRU season qualifying for the TRU cup game. […]
Myles Martin – Rugby Alumni Chairman
Hi all!
Just wanted to drop a quick line and introduce myself. For those who don’t know me, my name is Myles Martin a recently retired player from the blue and gold. As Gerry mentioned, I will be your Balmy Beach Alumni Chairman. I recognize I have some very large shoes to fill and I know I can’t do it alone. There are some very special people who make up this group and they should be recognized as well.
Kyle Nichols, Gord Young, , Andrew Steele, Adam Marshall, Paul Mathieson, Rick Chambers, Glenn Miller & Lisa De Sario
I think that all of us combined can probably do half the job Gerry has done for the last […]
