Remember Rugby Squash will be running March 20, 21 and 23rd. Please reach out to 240 Gordy for more information and to register – gyoung240@yahoo.ca

Rugby Squash Click Go to the Post – I am ecstatic to advise that Rugby Squash will be running March 20th, 21st and March 23rd of 2024 and this is your formal invitation to sign up! It is time to dust off your balls, your racquets, your goggles and such and squeeze onto the courts for some epic Squash action! We need 64 players of varying skill sets, from beginner to pros (it’s a state of mind); to pay $65, get a deluxe souvenir T-Shirt to prove you were really there, a bite to eat during the week, a few pints, a chance to win fabulous prizes and most importantly the opportunity to rub shoulders with new people, old friends, exes, foes and some cool rugby players pretending to play Squash. Format is rally-point to 25, no need to win by 2 and you will be matched up, as best as humanly possible, with someone of like ability or inability, keeping in mind we make the odd mistake in ranking players! Having said this, any mismatches will be addressed as best as possible and all matches should be reasonably even. Please confirm via e-mail, as soon as possible, to gyoung240@yahoo.ca and e-transfer the cash and I will solidify your spot. We do our best to accommodate timing on the schedule but it is relatively flexible. Games will run from 4pm to about 10pm and if you are not pissed by then, it’s your fault. Eight teams of 8 players for the Wednesday and Thursday evening, we then take the aggregate for each team and the top 4 teams play off on Saturday with a clean slate and 4 teams are eliminated after play on Thursday, pretty simple! Thanks for all of your wonderful support over the years and incidentally, all proceeds go to the rugby section. Sign up, do it now as it will fill up quickly.

Brian Williams – It is with a heavy heart I have to inform you about the passing of Brian Williams. A Nomad and Beach player who represented Canada on several occasions. His love lives on through his many family and friends who we think about during this most difficult time. https://memorials.ashburnhamfuneral.ca/brian-williams/5367493/

The rugby section is still hard at work as they transition to the pre-season with indoor training soon. Here are some other notes:

2024 Coaching
The rugby section has been busy looking for new head coaches for both the men’s and women’s sections. Stay tuned for an update on this.

2024 ORU Men’s Schedule
The club master schedule is at the link below: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/18mkCBRLUbHcDklw3lFpU-JXMDaXPpZDI?usp=drive_link

Currently only the ORU Men’s Schedule has been released, but when the men’s and women’s TRU schedules are released I will update this document to include them.

For the men’s ORU I’s the seeding for McCormick Cup is now based on the overall league standings NOT August playoffs. The more successful we are in our season games, the higher seeding we will get come September.

2025 League Reformatting
After this year, on the men’s side, the entire league is being restructured into a “Top 6 Premiership”, two conferences of 5 “ORU B Championship”, and then branch unions (TRU, NRU ect…)

No one wants to be in a relegation battle in August, so that means our first on the field goal this year is to win our East Division and get us an automatic pass into the premiership next year.

Before anyone asks; yes, it is possible for us to finish second in our division, lose the relegation battle, win the McCormick Cup, and then still get relegated based on league standings.

6 Nations
The tournament returns on Saturday February 3rd and games will be played on the big screen at the club. There will be breakfast and lunch specials so please stay tuned for more details and match fixtures.
