Myles Martin Weekly Alumni Report for July 15

The Beach women continue to do what they do best and win. A great home win for the ladies saw them put on a show and move the ball nicely. Another dominant win for the Beach women. Beach 41 – Lindsay 24

Short on numbers the Beach 3s weren’t able to field a side so we took a forfeit Brantford 20 – Beach 3s 0

The Beach 2s were in tough against a much bigger Brantford 2s pack. Brantford were able to dominate most of the set pieces which made a huge difference as the game progressed. The Beach were able to put together some nice passages but it wasn’t enough. Brantford 40 – Beach 2s 10

TRU Mens made their way out to the westend of Toronto to play the Toronto Dragons. They played well enough for a big win and held their opponents to one try and a penalty. Beach 34 – Dragons 8

The long trip up to Brantford made for an even longer trip back. Not much to write about here Beach 1s 5 – Brantford 102

Fixtures
Beach 3s vs Aurora 3s – 11am – Tubs and Gee Gage
Beach Women @ Ajax – 12:30pm – Ajax Wanderers
Beach 2s vs Aurora 2s – 2pm – Tubs and Gee Gage
Beach 1s vs Aurora 1s – 3:30pm – Tubs and Gee Gage

State of the Union – A note from Iain the President of the Rugby Section

Hello everyone. First off, I want to thank everyone who has suited up for us over the last several weeks while we have been short-handed, and played double games to ensure that we did not default either our ORU 2’s or TRU 1’s. Secondly, I want to recognize the multiple 19-20 year old young guns who stepped up to play the Brantford 1’s yesterday. It’s a mark of pride for the club that we have so many young players willing to put their hands up to challenge a team like Brantford in their house, regardless of the outcome of the game.

With that said though I think it’s safe to say that the first half of this season is not what anyone would have anticipated back in March. While we are finding great success in our women’s program, and are having positive results from our ORU2’s and TRU Squad, the reality is that the ORU I’s are struggling to find success.

Balmy Beach Rugby is a historic force for the game in Canada. We are the winningest club in Ontario, and the current McCormick cup holders. For a club with this history, our player numbers, and our financial and material resources the honest truth is that so far this season we have not lived up to our own expectations and the expectations that we should be holding our teammates and friends to as well. Change needs to happen.

I want to announce effective immediately that Balmy Beach Rugby will be moving onto the rest of our season, without Patrick Maulson as the Head Coach. While speaking with Patrick today we both decided […]
