BEACH BEST 15 Possibles????? You make the choice and ADD others if you wish!
Balmy Beach Rugby Best 15 Ballot sheet Please print!

Not much good stuff this week, – Firstly, the very sad part. I am sorry to announce the passing of Linda Gage! Linda passed last Fri evening after a long and difficult battle. Typical of the Gage stoic nature, both Bruce and Haydn showed up for action at Sat game in Brantford. Don’t know how they do it! No details yet re funeral services but I will send them when they arrive. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Bruce and the rest of the Gage family.

Sat. Game. Not a very good effort on our part. Too many errors, 4 yellow cards. Score 47-14 – Seems nuts that rugby is over this early in Sept.- Beach 2’s lose to Saracens at home 17-5

Alumni Dinner this Thursday – cocktails at 6 dinner around 7:15. We have 120 guests booked,,,,

Some very sad news to report in that Sandy Sealy/Clifford,, Mike (Cec) Clifford’s wife, passed earlier this week. Cec is a rugby Alum and former jr Administrator and our hearts go out to he and his daughters. I have no other details at this time re cause and I believe there will be Visitation next week and a Celebration of Sandy’s Life, probably on Wed Sept 26. I will provide details when I get them.Far too young…….. Our prayers are with the family and friends.

Game in Brantford Sat – There is a team bus leaving at 11’20 from the Club== Room for 10-12 supporters!

Alumni Fall Dinner – Thurs Sept 27 – I have 110 reservations so far!!!! LAST CALL is by SUNDAY SEPT 23. Get back to me ASAP.

Last Sat Results!
Beach 1’s continue with some great effort and despite the intense heat and humidity, managed to subdue a very game Lindsay side 47-10. The score flatters the Beach as Lindsay had a lot of the play and made some crucial errors close in when threatened by a stiff Beach defence. Outside speed and terrific support proved the difference. Kind of a shame that game was played on a high school field and with no touch judges( 1/4 final Cup Game)

Both Beach 2’s suffered losses. Beach Keenan lost at Home to a very well prepared Hamilton squad( coached by Scott Hendry!) score was 42-10 Beach Marshall squad goes down to Fletcher’s North Gee Gage Cup action Ontario Arrows defeat Glendale 40-18

This week
Sat Sept 22 – Cup Semi-finals – Beach 1’s at Brantford 3 pm KO – May be a bus for both players and spectators!

Beach Marshall vs Fletcher North @ Fletcher’s 1:30 KO

Fall Alumni Dinner – Thurs Sept 27th(two weeks away!) Keep those reservation coming, its going to be a great night, don’t miss it!

Sat. results! – As Meatlaof sings it “two out of three ain’t bad”! Beach 2 (Keenan) squad had a tough go in against an undefeated Scottish 2’s and despite our “experience” we were bested 56-10 Had our chances but no cigar! Beach 2 Marshall squad at Cru fared better with a 22-10 victory Word is that we probably should have put more points up but a lack of finish slowed things down! The Dude vows to be better!

Beach 1’s vs Wanderers score 98-7!! You read it properly! – Don’t want to waste much time here but our lads were ready to roll and a better test would be more appropriate preparation. This could have been 200. Ajax did not field a full side(14) and scrambled to stay on the pitch as injuries reduced their numbers to 12. At least we got 60 minutes in to make it a complete game!
Other action Brantford and Scottish had byes Creek beat Waterloo, Burlington beat Pagans and irish beat Barbs.

Beach 1 travels to Lindsay in Cup 1/4 Finals and it will be a tough one! We split with Lindsay on the season and they put fifty points on London in their Cup debut. Also we lose jaimie McKenzie who is called to action by Rugby Canada and lock Ben Jones plays for Ont. Arrows on Sun,which makes him ineligible for us on Sat Just a bit mor adversity but we can adapt!

Beach 2 Keenan travels to Fletchers for a 1:30 KO vs Flether’s North squad( a combo of Irish and Barbs)
Beach 2 Marshall is at HOME 1:30 KO vs Hamilton. Hamilton are NRU league champs, they put 40 points on Bay Street last week and are led by Beach Alum Scott Hendry!!!

Fall Dinner – Reservations coming in fast and furious. Lets get our numbers up to a 100 again! let me know asap. Should be an entertaining evening as we Honour Huggy, Celebrate the 50th of our first Cup, present the Caterer Award, and announce the Beach Best 15!

Lucky Lucy Casino Night – Thurs Sept 6th @ CF Fund Raiser see Aaron Mittler for more info!

More info tomorrow re the lineup of events for th4e evening. There is a lot going on, get in on it!!!

Champions? Everywhere!!! – Beach Academy clearly took the bit to overpower Vaughn Yeomen last Sat! A bit of a wet track did not derail the Blue and Gold with a 38-10 victory in the TRU Premiership! Although the lads dearly want to attain even loftier heights, the powers that be will not allow promotion as a Club cannot have 2 teams in the same division(Marshall) Vaughn will advance to seek that goal. Excellent team play by both forwards and backs and a well deserved win. Many of the Academy players will now find themselves as either subs for the Beach 1’s in upcoming Cup play or on the roster for the Beach 2’s in Gee Gage Cup play.

Ontario Blues – Champions again with a tight win on Sun over the Rock! 22-17
Beacher Lucas Rumball is named MOM ( Man of Match!!!)

Fall Dinner – Thurs Sept 27 now taking reservations. Lots to celebrate ie Beach Best 15, 50th Anniversary of 1st Cup win, Sr Women Champs, Ed Caterer award and more!!!!

TRU Championship Game! – With their infinite wisdom, the TRU has elected to play the Premier Championship Game on Sat Aug 25, between Balmy Beach Academy and Vaughn Yeomen in Raglan, Ont! Home of Oshawa RFC at 4pm. Tough to get a lot of fans to make this road trip but lets hope we have a good showing of Blue and Gold to support the lads as they have had a terrific season.

From Aaron Mittler! – BBC Alumni, Inviting you all to the 6th Annual Lucky Lucy’s Casino Night, in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. The BBC crew have been AMAZING supporters of this great cause and this year we have our best line of up auction items ever! Incl. a week at a Whistler Chalet and an awesome spring-free tramp. It’s September 6th at the Toronto Hunt Club and you can get tickets here: Hope to see you all there! Best, Mitts.

Fall Alumni Dinner – Thurs Sept 27th @ the Club – Details to follow. We have not forgotten the Beach Best 15!!!!!!!

Senior Women – Congratulations on a super season! Big win over Oshawa on sat to capture crown! score 36-17 Special nod to Alum’s Scotty Tait whose Grand-daughter, Maddy played a role! great work!

Beach 1’s – Another big win over the Cru 47-10, even though a bit short staffed. The “w” gives us 5th seed in the upcoming McCormick Cup starting on Sept 08 at Home! A possible ex game on Labour day weekend but details later! The road ahead will not be easy as the draw most likely puts first Burlington( who are being promoted) and then likely Lindsay, then Brantford then Scottish, if the seeding follows suit! A tough road to hoe but we have the horses!

Beach 2 – Exhibition match with Cru where we loaned them some players who then scored more points on us than they should! officially a 20- 0 default but…… Beach 2’s next serious match is Sept 6th in Gee Gage Cup play with teams and draw to be announced.

Beach Academy -Hooray… in the Finals of TRU Premier Cup! 36-15 win over Mississauga Blues we advance to the Cup Finals on Sat Aug 25. Game will be versus Vaughn Yeomen. Game will likely be at Fletcher’s and time to be determined More hardware on the way!

Other Action – Beach U 17’s in Finals at Vanier on Wed Aug22 7:30 KO

Ontario Blues play CRC semi’s on Aug 23 vs BC Bears. Rumball and Big Ben from Beach hopefully to see action. CRC finals are Sun Aug 26

Sad Note – We are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Duncan Hammond last Thurs evening. Duncan was a great individual and friend to so very many at BBC. He is already missed. There is a Celebration of Life at BBC on Sun Aug 19 at 2pm. Our thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends.

High Notes!! – Senior ladies – Great semi final victory on Sat over Peterborough with a 38-27 come from behind win! The ladies advance to the TRU Finals on Sat Aug 18 at Fletcher’s at NOON vs either Oshawa or Belleville. ‘Bon Chance!!!

Beach 1’s – In high gear. what a pleasant surprise to see such fast flowing action from the big guys!! Should everyone stay healthy and available this side can do some real damage in the McCormick Cup(Yahoo) The score 66-22. a little ragged at the end but a superb start. Unfortunately for Stoney Creek, the loss sends them to relegation for next year as will Peterborough who lost to the Cru

Sat Aug 18 Triple Header at HOME
Beach 1’s continue in Marshall Premier Plate Final vs the Cru at HOME at 3. In reality the game is for the 5th and 6th seeds in Sept McCormick Cup action
Beach 2’s will play Cru 2’s at 1:30 at HOME in a tune up for Gee Gage Cup action in Sept.
Academy 1’s are also at HOME on Sat at NOON vs Miss. Blues in TRU Premier CUP action semi-finals

You know from a season that had some misgivings and angst throughout much of the spring, the DAWG DAYS of summer seem to have a Blue and Gold hue to them!!!!

ALUMNI Fall Dinner is Thurs. Sept 27!!

Lots of good news! – Balmy Beach Club survives another Beach Rugby Volleyball Tourney! Just like in Vegas, whatever happens on V-Ball day.

Perhaps the biggest event on Volleyball Day happened at Centenary Hospital! A baby Oolup was born!!!!Steffan and Sophia are now the proud parents to Adalynne. Everyone doing well. Grandpa Peeter is taking longer to recover than Sophia! Always new I would be a “GREAT” Uncle! Yahoo!

Some good news along with some sad news! – Congratulations to Chris Rhora and Arlyssa Brown(John;s daughter!) on their marriage in Costa Rica last week! I wonder how long the ocean waves would take to wipe out the beach indentations made by all those Sementheads??

Sadly, we offer our condolences to the Harvey family as matriarch, Alice, passed last week. Our thoughts and prayers are with Bert and Jamie and their families. Alice will be missed by all of us. The Family is planning a Celebration of Life for Sun Feb 25 at the party room in Alice’s Guildwood Gates condo from 1-4pm.

In 1999, he commenced wearing the blue and gold of the BBC and played 10 seasons – primarily with the Mighty Thirds of TRU legend. Chris has a deep commitment to the club and rugby is a passion. Another excellent evening! – Rugby Ontario fetes Hall of Famers and League Medal Winners!

Beach Blue and Gold is in much evidence as Red Lipsett, Tony McGann and David Lougheed are inducted into Provincial rugby Hall of fame! 50-60 Beach Alumni turned out at the Maples Banquet Hall in Mississagua on Sat in this gala event.A well deserved compliment to the inductees as we were honoured to share the time with the families and friends of our comrades. Peeter Oolup spoke on Red’s behalf and Brian Spanton for Tony and as expected, did a terrific job! The evening was topped off by a new RO Award, the President’s award which went to Haydn Gage and Conor McCann for their heroic efforts to resuscitate Eric Shannon earlier in the season. Truly an appropriate tribute on a super evening!
